What a Great First Week!

Hello Everyone!

We have had a great first week in Grade Five!  It has been my pleasure to begin to get to know your sons and daughters, and to figure out how I can improve and enhance their learning this year.

This week we began Place Value in Math, in Language Arts we began our theme “Nature’s Fury”, and in Social studies we are reviewing the Five Themes of Geography.  If you would like to preview anything with your son or daughter, we will be doing the following next week:

  • Lesson 4: Compare Order, and Round Whole Numbers
  • Lesson 5: Place Value Through Thousandths
  • Lesson 6: Problem Solving Strategies
  • Lesson 7: Compare, Order, and Round Decimals

  • Spelling Test Monday – see list here.
  • ReadingSelection: Earthquake Terror – Comprehension Skills: Predictions, Sequence of Events, and Noting Details.
  • Grammar:  Subjects and Predicates, Compound Subjects and Compound Predicates
  • Writing: Writing a news article
Social Studies

Ways you can help your child this weekend:
  • Ask to read their journal response on our read aloud “Wringer”.
  • Check the home work for Math Lesson 2
  • Help them study for Monday’s spelling test.
  • Review vocabulary words for the selection Earthquake Terror.
  • Encourage your child to read at least twenty minutes a day in English.
Have a great weekend,

Patrick Holt
