Hello Everyone

Hello Everyone!

Next week is a short week! Wednesday is Halloween, and we will be having our annual Fancy Dress Day at school.  The parade starts at 9 AM, and will be followed by performances from Pre-K through to Sixth Grade.  Please join us if you are able!

This week we finished Chapter 4 on Divide by One Digit Numbers in Math, and we have started the next Chapter, Divide by Two Digit Numbers.  In Language Arts we have finished our latest selection, Volcanoes, and we have started the final set of stories in the Nature’s Fury theme.  As well, we did two mini-lessons this week. One was on subject verb agreement in the present tense, and the other was on agreement with the verbs be and have.  In Social Studies we are finished Chapter 1, and we have done an introductory activity for Chapter 2:  The Nation Divides. In Science we have finished Lesson 3 on Comparing Cells and will start Lesson four on Cell Organization.  If you would like to preview anything with your son or daughter, we will be doing the following next week:

Math:
  • Chapter 5: Divide by Two Digit Numbers; Lessons 2
  • Chapter 5; Lesson 3
  • Chapter 5; Lesson 4

Language Arts
Social Studies
  • Chapter 2 Lesson 1: Regional Disagreements
  • Social Studies test on Chapter 1, Tuesday.
Science
  • Lesson Four:  Cell Organization Investigation
Ways you can help your child this weekend:
  • Help your son or daughter review for the Social Studies test on Tuesday.  They need to know the following:  Vocabulary, the major U.S. landforms, regions, how to read an elevation map, how to use latitude and longitude, and how the environment effects settlement, and industry.
  • Review Vocabulary list. See list link above.
  • Check your son or daughters Vocabulary sentences.
  • Go over the main points of Lesson Four:  Cell Organization for Science.
  • Encourage your child to read at least twenty minutes a day in English.

Have a great weekend,

Patrick Holt
