Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed Wednesday’s Fun Day!  Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event.  We had a great afternoon!

This week in Math we have begun a new unit on Measurement, Data, and Graphing.  We have started with Chapter Six: Measurement Concepts.  In Language Arts we learned about what a tall tale is, and we read four examples for our Reading text.  On Monday we will be writing a theme test on Nature’s Fury.  In Social Studies we have come to the end of Chapter 2: A Nation Divides, and next week we will look more closely at plantation slavery.   In Science we have finished our lesson on How Plants Make Food, and we will continue next week with the next lesson on how plants move materials. If you would like to preview anything with your son or daughter, we will be doing the following next week:

Math:
  • Lesson 6.3:  Customary Units of Weight and Capacity
  • Lesson 6.4:  Metric Units of Length
  • Lesson 6.5:  Metric units of Mass and Capacity
  • Lesson 6.6:  Add and Subtract Measurement
  • Lesson 6.7:  Problem Solving Decision: Multistep Problems

  • Theme Test:  Nature’s Fury
  • Read your son/daughters’ draft of a tall tale.
  • Review Spelling Words.
Social Studies
  • Extension:  Life as a Slave

  • Chapter 2 Plant Systems Lesson  2
Ways you can help your child this weekend:
  • Language Arts; review reading and comprehension strategies; Grammar and sentence structure, and elements of a description from the theme Nature’s Fury.
  • Review Spelling list.
  • Encourage your child to read at least twenty minutes a day in English.

Have a great weekend,

Patrick Holt
