Hello Everyone!
Reminder that next week we will be writing the Iowa
test. Please see the schedule to the
right of this post. Please note that
this standardized test is not meant to be studied for, and the best way to
prepare your son or daughter for success is to ensure that they are well rested
and relaxed on Monday morning.
This week in Math we finished Chapter 15: Planes
Figures and Geometric Concepts, and students will be doing the Chapter
Review this weekend and writing the test next Friday. This week in Language
Arts we began reading autobiographies, looked at the new vocabulary, did a
lesson on prefixes, suffixes and word ending, and worked on our new spelling
list. In Science we finished Chapter 10
Lesson 1: The Earth’s Seasons and we have begun Lesson 2: Why Does the Moon have Phases? In Social
Studies we have been learning about the US National Government and are
currently in the process of creating a project to increase our understanding of
the system.
The Fifth Graders published their Photo Story project
RETHINK on their blogs two weeks ago. They still would love to have your
comments and feedback. If you’d like to view and comment on their work
click
here to link to their projects.
If you would like to preview anything with your son or
daughter, we will be doing the following next week:
Math:
- Review Lesson 15
Language Arts
Social Studies
- Chapter 16: The US National Government
Science
·
Chapter 10: Earth and its Moon
Ways you can help
your child over the Weekend:
- Make
sure they are relaxed and rested for the Iowa test.
- Encourage your son or daughter to read twenty minutes a day in English.
A friendly reminder to everyone that class starts at H.I.S.
at 8:20 AM. Students should arrive
before 8:20 AM so they have time to unpack their bags and be ready to learn at
8:20 AM.
Have a great weekend,
Patrick Holt
